Broward County Commissioner Lois Wexler is the recipient of the 2016 Exceptional People Impacting the Community (EPIC) Award presented by the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida. The prestigious award is given to individuals for the outstanding work they’ve done to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from mental health and substance abuse challenges. “It is my hope that we can level the playing field for those with a mental illness or substance abuse problem. We must recognize that this is a disease and needs to be respected as such and treated as such. The stigma needs to end. This has always been my goal,” said Commissioner Wexler as she accepted the award.
