Matt and Marianne Edge want to add trees to their yard and they had the perfect opportunity at the Free Tree Giveaway in Pompano Beach on July 16.

“This was great we were able to get two trees for our yard. I am glad that Pompano Beach does this. It good because we need more trees in the city,” said Marianne Edge. They got a Simpson Stopper and a Purple Tabebuia.

Hector and Crystal Hernandez also enjoyed the event and picked out two trees. “We were glad to be able to get two trees for our yard, said Hector Hernandez.

The Tree Giveaway is a popular event and attract hundreds of residents. Wade Collum, urban forester for Pompano Beach said an important goal of the program is to add to the city’s tree canopy and to create more awareness about the importance of trees.

“We want to have more trees in Pompano Beach. These trees create a sense of community and are good for the environment,” he said.

There will be another Free Tree Giveaway event on Saturday, July 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the City of Pompano Beach Nursery. It is located at 1000 Northeast 3rd Avenue. The trees have been cultivated by public works nursery personnel. Trees available include Simpson Stopper, Paradise Tree, Live Oak, Queen Palm, Mahogany, Jacaranda, Gumbo-Limbo and others. Each residence can receive two free trees. To receive the trees, one must show proof of residency in Pompano Beach.
