People who enjoy running for personal fitness or to prepare for competitive races may want to consider joining the Northwest Broward Road Running Club.
The Club is open to runners of all experience and abilities. This could include people who are new to running and returning to the sport after taking a break from it. The Club includes more than 200 members and is a part of the Road Runners Club of America.
Some of the members are competitive runners who want to prepare for road races, increase their speed or set a personal record. Others simply want to run as part of a group. The Club offers half-marathon and full-marathon training and a youth running program.
The Club meets for training runs at the Starbucks/Walmart parking lot at the corner of Coral Ridge Drive and Holmberg Road in Parkland. Runners meet at 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings, 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Melissa Hinton, a vice president of the Club and the Head Coach of the Youth Running Program loves being member of the Club. “We have regularly scheduled groups runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday and many members also post runs they do on other days and invite others to join them. On Saturday, our long run day, we put Gatorade and water in three locations on our course. We also have three certified coaches available to help members at any time with training questions, form stretching or injury issues. We offer free basic marathon and half marathon training programs, as well as beginning running programs to all members,” said Hinton. “We also host several socials throughout the year, as well as informal and impromptu get-togethers. WE are so proud of our club and all we do for the running community.”
Club members are active on social media. “We have a very active Facebook page where we share sponsor and member news, including rad results of members. We are a like a family, and post pictures, congratulate and support each other through all of our various races and training,” said Hinton.
