Chi Psi Omega and Upsilon Xi Omega Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated partnered to welcome Reverend Dr. Teresa Snorton, the first Christian Methodist Episcopal African-American female bishop to Fort Lauderdale in celebration of annual Florida District Conference.

Dr. Snorton is the Presiding Prelate of the 5th Episcopal District, one of eleven districts worldwide and serves as the 59th Episcopal bishop.  Dr. Snorton, currently in her sixth year, is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The organization is 146 years old and boasts a membership of nearly 900 thousand worldwide.

Sorority members were elated to welcome the bishop and to shower the history-maker with gifts. Presentations were apropo as the bishop provides outreach services to the most poverty=stricken communities and so the two chapters represented.

Chi Psi Omega Chapter was represented by Veronica E. Phillips, Barbara J. Thomas and Josetta B. Patterson.  Upsilon Xi Omega was represented by its president, Kathy Jones.
