Soon there will be LED street lighting along University Drive from Holmberg Road to Loxahatchee Road through the City of Parkland (City). The decision to install 83 Florida Power and Light concrete utility poles with LED light fixtures along this stretch of University Drive, not only comes immediately after the North Springs Improvement District transferred responsibility of the road to the City on June 22, 2016, but serves to underscore the City Commission’s commitment to safety in Parkland.
The project is scheduled to begin as early as September 8, 2016, weather permitting, and be completed in the Summer of 2017. The first phase of the project will be digging to make way for underground power to service the light poles. That phase will give way to erecting the concrete poles. The lights will be on both sides of University Drive from Holmberg Road to just north of the Congregation Kol Tikvah. North from that point the poles will be solely on the west side of the road all the way to Loxahatchee Road.
While construction crews will be working largely off road, there may be periodic short-term lane closures. These closures will ensure the safety of motorists and crew members alike.
