Coral Springs Commissioner Larry Vignola and candidate Karen Jones participated in a candidate’s forum at the Northwest Regional Library. They are running for Seat Three on the Commission. Both offered a positive vision on how they would like to see Coral Springs develop.
Vignola said he is very proud of Coral Springs and how it has developed over the years. He has been an active volunteer in youth athletic programs. He is proud that the City government is strong financially and kept its financial strength through the recession. “We have one of the lowest millage rates in Broward County,” he said. “I don’t think we need to raise taxes.”
Vignola is also pleased that the City did not join the Broward County 911 program even though it was pressured to do so. “When countywide 911 program was being set up, they said, how can we make it like Coral Springs. We have a great 911 system,” he said. “We never had to sacrifice public safety.”
Vignola would like to see more entertainment opportunities for residents of all ages. He is committed to making Coral Springs an attractive place to live and do business. He is pleased that work is progressing on the road to connect the Sawgrass Expressway to I-95.
Karen Jones is also proud to be a part of Coral Springs. She has spent many years in public service jobs and has done extensive community volunteer work. She would like to see improvements to the City and is especially concerned about the parks. She believes some of the parks have fallen into disrepair and believes those parks need to be improved. She would like to see improvements to the city’s infrastructure. She is not advocating for an increase in property taxes but believes an increase in taxes could be considered as an option to make improvements to the City. She is also in favor of creating social and entertainment opportunities for people of all ages.
