The City of Coral Springs will host a Facebook Live on Monday, October 17 at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposed penny sales surtax, which will be on the upcoming November ballot.  Residents are encouraged to tune in on the City’s Facebook Page and learn more about the county and City projects that are planned if the funding is approved by voters. The initial taping was cancelled in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew.

“We are happy to have this opportunity to provide our residents with information about the upcoming proposed penny sales surtax, “Deputy City Manager Jennifer Bramley said.  “This session will include details about how the collected funds would be spent by the County and our City. We encourage our residents to submit questions, and we will do our best to answer them live.”

Presenters at this forum will include Deputy City Managers Susan Grant and Jennifer Bramley, and Henry Sniezek from Broward County. Attendees will hear the list of projects that the City of Coral Springs and County plan to undertake and be able to ask questions pertinent to this topic.

This November, Broward County residents have the opportunity to vote on two ballot questions. One question is for a half penny (.5%) transportation sales surtax for transportation projects, including traffic signal synchronization, expanded senior mobility, and enhanced transit options, which would be implemented by Broward County.

The second question is for the other half penny infrastructure sales surtax to fund individual city projects such as improvements to parks, investment in public safety equipment, the construction of an auditorium at Coral Glades High School, the construction of a stadium at J.P. Taravella High School, the repair of aging pipes to protect water quality and prevent flooding, plus neighborhood safety improvements like the addition of sidewalks and bike lanes.

If either ballot measure does not receive majority approval, both will fail.
