Chi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, charitable arm of A Plus Foundation, Incorporated, was recently recognized for its continuous and outpouring of services to the Children’s Services of Council of Broward County. “Our focus is Our Children” is the motto of the council. The recognition was given as a result of the chapter’s on-going annual volunteer support and donation, through its charitable arm, to the Broward County Back to School Community Extravaganza. Moreover, the recognition embodies the chapter’s international programs: Target I: ASCEND, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s signature program for high school students in Grades 9 through 12, Target II: Health and Wellness and Target III: Family Strengthening. Most importantly, the annual donation is made to aid in providing for a record number of children; 5700 obtained backpacks filled with age appropriate supplies, uniforms and new shoes. Children and their families were able to receive resources from service providers, get access to needed medical checkups and or immunizations, receive free age-appropriate books and be entertained by costumed characters.
Receiving recognition from Sandra Bernard Bastien, Chief Communications Officer for the agency were Josetta B. Patterson, A Plus Foundation, Incorporated President, Barbara J. Thomas, A Plus Foundation, Incorporated Treasurer, Ann B. Lee and Veronica E. Phillip, foundation members.
