The City of Parkland, Florida Department of Finance has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for reporting that exhibits transparency and full disclosure. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and was created by GFOA in 1945 to encourage local governments to excel beyond minimum requirements.
Specifically the award was for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2015. Judging can begin only after submission and audit resulting in awards announced a year after the period covered by the report. The City of Parkland CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to have met the highest standards—including a “constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate the City’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR,” according to the GFOA.
