Broward Health has fired CEO Pauline Grant. There were concerned about a possible kickback. Chief operating officer Kevin Fusco was named as interim CEO. The accusations involved a physician who sought to get on an on-call schedule in 2015 while Grant was CEO at Broward Health North. Grant said the allegation is that the hospital profited but that she did not. Grant said that the allegations are not true. Broward Health General Counsel Lynn Barrett hired two outside law firms to review Grant’s activities and make recommendations to Broward Health. The independent investigation found that there is probable cause of violation of the federal anti-kickback statute. Grant has said that she was blindsided by the accusations. Board member Linda Robinson made the motion to remove Grant saying that a hospital under federal oversight as Broward Health is, could not have a CEO facing a possible criminal investigation. Broward Health operates five hospitals had to pay a federal fine of about $70 million because of illegal payments to physicians. Former CEO Dr. Nabil El-Sanadi committed suicide.
