On December 27, 2016, at approximately 10:40am, members of the Traffic Unit responded to a serious crash at the intersection of W. Sample Rd/NW 101 Av., where a two-car collision had occurred.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2015 Toyota Corolla, driven by Eric Abraham, 17, of the city of Fort Lauderdale, was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on W. Sample Rd., when patrol officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop due to the vehicle displaying a stolen license plate, out of the City of Fort Lauderdale.  The driver proceeded to drive through a red light at the intersection of NW 101st Avenue, when the Corolla impacted a 2015 Mercedes C-250, 4-door.

The Mercedes was traveling northbound on NW 101st Avenue with a solid green light when it was struck by the Corolla, causing serious damage to both vehicles. The Mercedes was driven by Christianne Weiner, 53, of Parkland. Weiner was transported to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced deceased by ER staff a short time later.  Also in her vehicle was her son, 11, who was air-lifted to Broward General Medical Center, with non life threatening injuries.

Preliminary Investigation indicates the Corolla was reported stolen out of Miami Gardens, FL.  The driver, Abraham, was transported to Broward Health North.  Also in the stolen Corolla were two juvenile passengers and one adult later identified as Tyree Goodwin, 18, of Fort Lauderdale.  All passengers were transported to Broward Health North, as well.  The occupants of the 2015 Toyota Corolla were treated for serious injuries.

Currently Abraham is being charged with Vehicular Homicide; Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death (4 counts); Reckless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death (4 counts); No Driver’s License Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death (4 counts); and Grand Theft – Auto (Possession).  The investigation is still on going and at this time it is unknown if the remaining occupants from the vehicle will be facing any criminal charges.
