The ladies of Chi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated gathered at a movie to celebrate the Third Annual International Sisterly Relations Day; connecting, bonding, getting better acquainted, having fun, outside of working together and planning community service projects. The International Sisterly Relations Day coincided with the 109th Founders’ Day Anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; celebrating legacy, sisterhood, service mission of our beloved sorority. Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, International President, (2014-2018) Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, brainchild is to rekindle sisterly relations and foster pride among the membership; appointing Wilma Holmes Tootle, Chairman, International Sisterly Relations Committee, to fulfill this mission; thus, making it a reality.
Chi Psi Omega members followed the international and fostered good Sisterly Relations at a social outing that included the movie, “Hidden Figures”. The movie was a clarion call as it was designed to foster pride about being a member of the sisterhood. Moreover, the movie depicted three African-American NASA mathematicians and trailblazers. Although two are deceased and one still alive at 98 years old, they were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Chapter members are proud of the accomplishments of AKA member, Katherine G. Johnson, mathematician and physicist, who calculated John Glenn’s Space Orbit and is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom; Mary Jackson, aeronautical engineer and Dorothy Vaughan, computer programmer/analyst and IBM Computer Supervisor.
To enhance a good evening of sisterly relations while enjoying a movie, Chi Psi Omega members had dinner entrees of their choosing and ended with a pink bag for each attendee filled with goodies and complimentary of the chapter’s Sisterly Relations Committee; Tracy G. Roach, chairman.
