The Wings of Freedom Tour is making a stop at the Pompano Beach Airpark. People can see World War II airplanes and for a fee, take a ride in some of the airplanes. The airplanes are part of the Collings Foundation and they tour the United States to educate people on World War II. The airplanes on display include the P-51 Mustang, the B-25 Mitchell, the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-24 Liberator. People can see the interior of the airplanes.
“We want to educate people about World War II. Many young people know little about World War II and what it meant,” said Jamie Mitchell, flight coordinator.
John Katsaros, who flew in a B-17 over Germany during World War II and was shot down and was able to escape from the Germans with the help of the Free French Resistance was available to discuss his experiences.
