Chi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated members participated through Target III: Family Strengthening, one of its international program Targets, in the 33311 Family Festival events held Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Joseph Carter Park for the second year in a row. The event is sponsored by Mount Bethel Human Services Corporation and Broward Aware.
33311 Area is an underserved majority minority population in the city of Fort Lauderdale. The groups organize and gather to make the community aware of services by bringing them to the community. As Target III: Family Strengthening’s mission is to uplift and strengthen the family, the committee partnered to broaden its base and to provide services at the event.
Over 500 community participants attended, participated in a walk through the 33311 Neighborhood and returned to the park for a program. Families and participants who registered received a backpack from Children Services Council, a T-shirt for the walk from the sponsors and a ticket for a nutritious lunch.
Most importantly, families received social, human(job placement information), financial, medical, and a wealth of social services for children, including safe kids, Children Services Council and YMCA of Broward. Vendors provided services under tents that stretched from one end of the park to the other. An existing prize was given to all participants who visited every vendor and received their initials/signatures.
