Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Chi Psi Omega Chapter’s Target III: Family Strengthening Committee hosted a timely, expedient and needed community workshop: Investing and Budgeting for the Present and Future, Saturday, March 4th at the Tyrone Bryant Branch Library.

Financial savvy is one of the components of the target.  Most importantly, Target III: Family Strengthening is one of five targets set aside by AKA International President Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson and implemented by the international program committee for this quadrennial; 2014-2018.

Approximately 50 community participants attended this event. Presenters Mariam Apoian Spaulding LUTCF, Regional Vice-President and Nick Apoian, LUTCF, both of Capital Insurance Agency engaged the well-attended audience in topics that included estate planning, living wills, trusts, power of attorney, medical power of attorney, various types of insurance, permanent life insurance, social security, 401Ks, IRAs, retirement planning, rising college costs, mortgages, wage earnings, investing, emergency and regular savings.

Informational handouts enhanced participants’ knowledge. Question and answer session followed to ensure understanding.  It was evidenced from a compiled evaluations’ summary from participants that valuable financial information presented spurred learning, knowledge and a successful Investing and Budgeting for the Present and Future workshop.

Target IV: Environmental Ownership was a partner and provided “1908 Acts of Green” recycling tips for the home to enhance and increase savings.  Following the event, participants enjoyed light, nutritious and healthy refreshments.
