The Run for the Angels 5K took place at the Pompano Beach AirPark on May 6. About 300 runners came together to enjoy a run to raise money for the Angel Flight Southeastern program. David Kraft, rookie pilot of the year for 2016 for Angel Flight and a survivor of throat cancer participated in the run.
“This is an awesome program and I am glad to be a part of it,” said Kraft.
David Kraft and his wife Lisa Drew, who acts as his co-pilot fly people who are fighting unusual forms of cancer to hospitals around the country for care. Kraft is a volunteer pilot. He flies Sacha Hunter Hobbs from her home in Stuart to Tampa for cancer treatment once a week. For more than four years, Hobbs has been fighting breast cancer and brain cancer. Using the latest treatments, Hobbs has seen a reduction in the lesions on her brain.
Hobbs said she will continue fighting as long as possible.
Steve Purello, CEO and a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight Southeast was pleased to see some many people getting together to enjoy the race. “This is a fun event and I believe people enjoy seeing the airplanes up close. People run on the runway,” he said.
Also, the Canadian Snowbirds were in town for a performance in an airshow. Some of the members of the team participated in the race. They also spent time visiting with race participants. The event was fun. The weather was pleasant for a 5K run.
