A crash on July 15, 2017 involving two vehicles has resulted in the death of a 10-year-old passenger.
Coral Springs Police are investigating a traffic crash that occurred on July 15, 2017 at approximately 2:32 P.M. at the intersection of University Drive and Wiles Road. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Chevrolet Express van driven by Michael Rico, 67, of Parkland was traveling eastbound on Wiles Road. Rico’s vehicle entered the intersection of University Drive where it collided with a 2016 Nissan Maxima driven by Torey New, 27, of Coral Springs as Torey attempted to turn left and travel south on University Drive. Also in the Nissan Maxima at the time of the crash was New’s 10-year-old son, Jordan.
The impact caused the Chevrolet van to roll over and Rico was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs with non-life threatening injuries. Torey New was transported by ambulance to Broward General with non-life threatening injuries. Jordan New was transported via air rescue to Broward General with serious injuries. On July 20, 2017, Jordan New was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
