Last year several Coral Springs schools made headlines when several middle and high school students made online threats – resulting in arrests and school disruption. The detectives from our Crimes Against Persons Unit investigated 12 credible threats and our School Resource Officers handled countless other similar investigations.

At the end of the school year, J.P. Taravella High School was placed on Code Red Lock Down when reports of a student with a gun were received into our Communications Center. Thankfully, no student was injured; the gun was located and turned out to be a replica.

Both of these scenarios not only disrupt the education of students, strike fear in parents and children; but also strain police resources. As a result, the following two Public Safety Announcements (PSAs) will be shared with parents, students and faculty in all Coral Springs middle and high schools. It will be shared in school, at parent meetings and other school functions to encourage discussion and prevent further incidents.
