Celebrate freedom with libations and laughs at the Coral Springs Juneteenth Celebration, an indoor event, taking place on Wednesday, June 19 at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Drive) at 6 p.m.

The reimagined event will feature a jam-packed pre-party starting at 6 p.m., followed by Comedian Preacher Lawson’s show at 8 p.m. The pre-party – highlighted by food and entertainment – will include a step performance by Divine 9, a fashion showcase by ADU Salon, arts and crafts, complimentary small bites from local, black-owned restaurants, beverages for purchase, and more. The party will serve as a kickoff to an all-ages show by Lawson who is best known for his time spent as a finalist on the 12th season of Americas Got Talent, America’s Got Talent: The Champions, and Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

Lawson’s show will include a formal welcome from the Coral Springs City Commission. Commissioner Joshua Simmons, the city’s first black commissioner who spearheaded the initiative to establish Juneteenth as a city holiday and create an annual celebration, is looking forward to welcoming the community for a reimagined event.

“Get ready, Coral Springs! We’re packing a lot of excitement, entertainment, and laughs, into our Juneteenth Celebration this year,” Simmons said. “I look forward to seeing our community come together for our annual Juneteenth commemoration to that marks the abolition of slavery in the U.S.”

Tickets are on sale now and start at $35 for non-Coral Springs residents. Tickets for Coral Springs residents are $25 when using the code BESTDAYEVER.

Juneteenth, or “Freedom Day” is symbolically celebrated annually in recognition of the liberation of thousands of enslaved men, women and children in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 – two and a half years after President Lincoln had already signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
